Fate of the Sun King Review
My review of the book Fate of the Sun King. I’m sure all of you readers have been on the edge of your seat for me to finish the next book in the Artefacts of Ouranos series (my last post). So, yay here it is!! I would also like to note that I missed a book in this series called Rule of the Aurora King, so don’t be confused about that.
First of all, this book was LONGGG (560 pages). In fact, all of the books in this series are pretty long, ranging from 400 to 600 pages, so don’t be surprised about that like I was.
However, this book was a great read and worth your time. The author definitely stepped up her writing and the world is starting to make more sense. However, the writing is a bit childish, but thats not always a bad thing. I would classify this book as a fluffy book, it has fairly light themes and doesn’t require very much in depth thought and deliberation to understand the plot.
The book starts off from a perspective that we don’t hear from often, a character named Gabriel. Gabriel informs us about the many secrets that Sun King he works for is hiding and shares how detrimental that could be to the kingdom. Then of course, the narration finds its way beck to Lor (the main character), who is trying to reclaim her magic that she lost while she was young and uncover more details about her past and her family line. She travels to the her kingdom (which she has yet to take ownership of) and learns some darker history about her grandmother. Immediately after this, she tries to help a little boy and gets trapped by Sun King (remember him?), but her (newly discovered) mate saves her. After this, they travel to the Woodlands Kingdom for a quick stay with Lor’s family. Then, they go back to the Sun kingdom and make a plan to break into the Sun Palace so they can steal the ark of the Heart Kingdom (a magical device that Lor needs to get her powers back). After facing many challenges with how to get into the palace undetected, the figure out a diversion that works and make it inside. While Lor is getting the Heart Kingdom ark the army of the Aurora surrounds them (another enemy of Lor’s). Lor and her mate Nadir are captured by the men and taken away. But, they are not taken before Lor gets her powers back. She escapes the prison by using her magic, but her lack of control over her magic causes a serious problem, which sets up the story for the next book.
Overall I think this book was good because the plot is fun and I was able to lose myself in the story. There were less plot holes compared to the first book and Lor’s connections with each of the peeple and kingdoms are making much more sense now that I am on the third book (as one would hope). However, I agree with several of the comments on my last post, the plot seems very similar to other popular fantasy books like the hunger games. I don’t think that this was a smart choice by the author because the book just seems silly and childish compared to the important topics that The Hunger Games covers. While this book was good, I would suggest only reading this series if you just want something fun to read without much thought.
