Books I want to read
Here is my current list of books I want to read, with a mix of sci-fi, dystopian, and historical fiction. These are the top books I want to read right now, but definitely not all. :)
#1 = The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
A combination of comedy and sci-fi, this classic book follows
the adventures of an Intergalactic space traveler.
I want to read this because I love classic books and have been meaning to read this one for years!!
#2 = Dune by Frank Herbert
A sci-fi classic set in a very distant future, where political leaders on the desert planet of Arrakis fight to control the valuable spice trade.
I mostly want to read this after watching the movies,
especially since Timothée Chalamet is in them :)))
#3 = The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells
This 1897 sci-fi classic novel is about a scientist who
becomes invisible and the isolation that follows.
I recently heard of this book, and I think it has a very
interesting plot. It’s often regarded as a foundational classic sci-fi novel,
so as a sci-fi reader, I think it would be good to read.
#4 = Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
This book is an anti-war sci-fi historical fiction novel about
an American soldier and his experience with time travel, specifically in the
bombing of Dresden in World War II.
I’ve never read a sci-fi World War II book, so I think it
would be fascinating.
#5 = Above the Bay of Angels by Rhys Bowen
This historical fiction and mystery novel is about a
talented chef/servant who is given a job at Queen Victoria’s palace. Everything
is going well until she’s mixed up in a potential homicide and is suspected of
poisoning a high-ranking official.
For me, a close second to sci-fi is mystery, which is a
large component of this book. Supposedly, the book, while fictional, accurately
depicts late-Victorian England, which I’ve been wanting to learn more about!
Those are my top 5 at the moment, but here are some
additional books I’m wanting to check out:
- The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
- Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin
- The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin
- I, Robot by Isaac Asimov
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
- Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
- The Power by Naomi Alderman
- Why We’re Polarized by Ezra Klein
- Singularity by William Sleator
Thank you for reading! Hopefully, you saw something you
might want to check out. If you have any books you think I’d like, please
share. I’m always looking for something to read :)
